Project Description

In my master thesis, I investigated the potential of eye closure for visual media. I hypothesized that even though it may sound counterintuitive, visual media could be enriched through closing the eyes.

I developed various applications, including the issue of commands by closing one or both eyes (e.g. activating the sniper scope in a first-person shooter game, or causing a text processor to read out the current sentence aloud), alongside a number of experiments that allow for an experiential investigation of the topic, including a movie that intermediately asked the audience to close its eyes, keeping the sound playing, and so maintaining the inspiration for the mental imagery, while omitting the video's visuals.
